ABOUT
the history
of alloy
Alloy was set up in 1993 by founder Mike Gell to create a collaborative community for local Herefordshire Jewellers. In 1998 Alloy, originally known as Alloy Jewellers, opened their communal workshop based in Hereford’s Centre for the Arts, The Courtyard, thanks to Arts Council and Lottery funding.
The aim of Alloy as an organisation is to bring together designer-makers in a non-competitive and supportive environment by assisting its members in the promotion of their work while also providing them access to a well equipped workshop. Since 1993, Alloy has proudly supported over 100 makers who have gone on to work all over the world.
In addition, the organisation runs a Graduate Scheme which guides and aids successful applicants in their first postgraduate year of business and there are also three showcase cabinets on permanent display at The Courtyard.
Alloy run exhibitions together, the next being H-Art in 2024, then a full gallery show at The Courtyard in 2025, and will be hosting public workshops through their communal workshop soon. Please keep an eye on Alloy’s social media for updates.
